Facebook just launched the WhatsApp Desktop App, roughly 16 months after launching WhatsApp Web. What the difference ? Let’s find out
There is actually no difference whatsoever, the desktop App is the same as the Web App. According to company’s blog it said “Like WhatsApp Web, our desktop app is simply an extension of your phone: the app mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device”

To put it another way, it’s no different than WhatsApp Web, you still need your phone around to use the App, you still need to scan the QR code to connect WhatsApp mobile to WhatsApp Desktop App. The only benefit I found after using the app for a brief moment was that you can use all your favourite keyboard shortcuts inside the app, which was not possible by WhatsApp Web. Another thing the blog says that you can now get desktop notifications, which in my memory you could still get when you used WhatsApp Web.
There appears to be no real reason for Facebook to release a WhatsApp Desktop App, for now. WhatsApp has more than 1 billion users already. As of today, they have one more reason to keep it open all day.
Maybe the company has plans for future and this is just a small step to that plan, as there is a word out that WhatsApp is soon going to add Video Call to it’s feature. Let’s just hope for the best and enjoy the App for now.
